Dhokala or savory chickpeas cake
Dhokala
is very popular gujarati delicacy which is served mostly as a breakfast or snacks.Dhokala has become more popular everywhere as it needs very
less oil for making it.I often make dhokala for breakfast and serve with tamrind date chutney.It can be served with any choice of chutney or tomato sauce.
Dhokala (savory cake) is made from chickpeas flour.It has many variation recipes for making it ,like instead of chickpeas flour other lentil flour, rawa/semolina is used for making dhokala.And its quick to make and easy to digest too.
It needs special dhokala cooker for making (steaming )it . Also it can be made using idli cooker or normal pressure cooker. While making dhokala in normal pressure cooker remove rubber valve (Gasket)of cooker lid and them steam dhokala for 15 to 20 minutes for making it.I have used idli cooker for steaming following dhokala recipe.

Ingredients
:
- Besan /chickpeas flour 2 cup
- Rawa/ semolina 2 tb spoon
- Ginger paste 1/2 tea spoon
- Curd 1 and 1/2 cup
- Green chili 4 finely chopped
- Salt as per taste
- Sugar 1/4 tea spoon
- Water
- Coriander leaves small bunch
- Curry leaves 8- 9
- Asafoetida 1 pinch & Mustard seeds 1 tea spoon for tempering
- Eno (Fruit salt)1 tea spoon
- Oil 2 tb Spoon
Directions
To Cook:
- Mix besan ,semolina , curd and water. Keep it aside for 1 hour.
- Add green chili , ginger paste ,sugar ,salt in besan mixture and mix well.
- Grease one plate/container with oil.keep it aside.
- Heat 2 glass of water in Steamer/cooker.
- Add 1 tea spoon of eno in besan batter while stirring continuously.Besan batter will increase in size .
- Pour batter in greased plate and keep plate immediately in steamer.
- Close lead of cooker and steam it for 15 to 20 minutes.
- For checking dhokala is cooked :Insert knife in dhokala and if it comes out clean then it is cooked . If it is not cooked steam for some more time. Take dhokala container out after cooking and keep it aside.
- For tempering (It is optional)Heat oil in kadhai and add cumin seeds , mustard seeds and asfoetida in oil .
- Add curry leaves, green chili in kadhai and pour it on dhokala and make sure it coats well on dhokala .
- Cut dhokala in any shape and serve it with tamrind date or any choice of chutney.
