How to make coconut chutney
Coconut chutney is very popular type of chutney/side dish as its served widely with south indian delicacies like idli, dosa ,medu wada. Coconut chutney is regularly made in many parts of india.
For making coconut chutney fresh coconuts are used.Fresh grated coconuts are available at many grocery stores also. Dry coconuts can also be used for making it ,but it tastes good with fresh coconuts only. Beside health benefits of fresh coconut it tastes yummy and can be served as side dish with snacks like fritters, wadas, parathas also.I make this chutney often with idali ,dosa, uttapam,medu wada and vegetable fritters.It's  loved by my kids.

For people on diet/weight watchers  tempering of ghee can be avoided in following recipe to make less calorie coconut chutney. Only precaution is this chutney should be consumed immediately after making it as its taste changes after keeping for long time.Make this quick chutney as side with any favorite dish.   





Preparation time:15 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Ingredients:
  • Fresh Coconut grated or small pieces 2 cups
  • Curd 1/2 cup
  • garlic 4 cloves
  • Curry leaves 10 to 15 leaves
  • Green chili 2 finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Ghee 1 tb spoon
  • Salt 1/2 tea spoon
  • Pinch of Asafoetida
  • Mustard seeds 8-9
  • Cumin seeds 8-9
  • Water 2 cup
Directions to cook:

1. Run coconut ,curd ,green chilies coriander leaves ,garlic ,salt in grinder with some water to get fine paste.
2. For making tampering heat kadhai and pour ghee in it.
3. Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida ,curry leaves in hot ghee and pour it immediately on coconut chutaney.
4. Mix well all ingredients,  if required add curd or water to get desired consistency.
5. Serve coconut chutney with any favorite main dish.
